Healthy Kids Start With Healthy Parents

Are healthy kids by-product of healthy parents? ... or are they born knowing the difference between healthy foods ...and unhealthy foods? At the tender ages of childhood, kids learn habits that will stick with them into their adolescence years, and well into adulthood. I'm certain you agree...

Here's my point:

TEACH YOUR KIDS BY ACTION, NOT BY HYPOCRITICALLY TALKING TO THEM.

Let me further explain:

I speak with a lot of parents about what types of food they are serving at the dinner table. Guess what? Their children will never have a chance to be slim and fit with the portion sizes and the quality of foods they are being served. NEVER!

Here is the fascinating part: In one breath, the parents are TRYING to tell their kids about how to eat well, and how to exercise... and then guess what? At dinner, the parents are shoving oversize portions of processed and high-fat foods right down their throats.

The best part? "Be a good boy now and eat all your food." WOW! We are rewarding our kids by teaching them how to overeat......

Parents, I'm not telling you to stop every single thing you do and re-create a new life of lettuce and water.... and 2 hours of exercise every single day.

No, not at all. What I am telling you is that there are a lot of LITTLE THINGS you can do for your kids that ADD UP to bring them huge benefits in portion control and healthy habits. Here are a few things you can focus on:

1. Snack time- give only HALF of the snack, and save half for later. No child needs 24g of sugar at a time.

2. Multiple kids - split the meals and snacks in HALF. Sugary drinks? Dilute them with water.... help save your child's life.

3. Television time- during commercials, the kid(s) have to run in place for 1 minute, then do a few push ups, and maybe a few situps.... this simple activity when added up brings HUGE RESULTS- and it helps to build healthy habits that will last a lifetime for your children.

4. Spaghetti O's - At almost 2,000mg of sodium per can, there is a simple healthy alternative. Whole wheat pasta with low-sodium tomato sauce... sprinkle with oregano and Parmesan. Great tasting, and healthy, too!

What Really Causes Autism?

Autism is a disorder that generally is noticed in children around the age of three. For some unknown reason, autism is four times more frequent in boys than in girls. The disorder manifests itself in varying degrees in each child, but generally, the child has few interactive skills with other children, doesn't talk, doesn't make eye contact, may throw tantrums, and may act deaf when he or she has normal hearing. These are just a few of the symptoms.

It is generally accepted that autism is brought about by abnormalities in the structure of the brain or some kind of malfunctioning of the brain. It is considered a neurological disorder. As of yet, we do not know what causes this malfunctioning. There are several theories. One is environmental factors such as toxins in the air, viruses or exposure to chemicals such as mercury. Another is that autism is hereditary, as it does seem to run in families. However; they have not been able to isolate a gene that causes it. In addition, there is evidence that the potential to develop autism also runs in families.

A less popular theory is that the mother may have had problems during pregnancy or delivery, which included digesting a harmful substance. Other theories have included mothers having babies later on in life; having premature babies, and having babies born in the breech position. Studies on these factors have not come up with anything decisive and have left the medical disciplines unconvinced. There have even been theories that the measles vaccination may have caused some children to have autism. More research would have to be done for this to be conclusive.

One thing is agreed on in the medical fields surrounding autism; it is not a mental disorder. It is not caused by psychological problems of the parents or the child. Children are born with the disorder, or they are born with the potential to have it. Early diagnosis can help tremendously. Corrective behavior can be learned and a certain amount of independence can be established if the problem is caught early. Living with an autistic child is certainly not an easy task, but it can be easier, armed with knowledge of the disorder and taking advantage of the professional services available. There are many support groups as well. It is thought that 1.5 million people in the U.S. may have some form of autism.

Detox Colon Cleanse and Nutrition

With the greatly increasing popularity of using detox colon cleanse products it should come as no surprise that a number of celebrities have endorsed these products. This list includes and is not limited to Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce and Gwyneth Paltrow among others. And we can't forego the very real testimonials from thousands of users of this product exposing the benefits they have gained. This article will focus on some of the origins of detox colon cleanse products and some of the benefits to be derived from their use.

Origins

Keep in mind that some of the core principles of detoxification have been around for hundred of years. This includes the ideas of fasting and cleansing. These concepts have their basis on ancient Greek and Egyptian paradigms of eating fruit for health. It is a fact that the entire cleansing industry took a large drop in popularity in the early twentieth century. However, with the dramatic rise of cancer, heart disease and obesity the industry is gaining popularity again. Due in large part to individuals seeking alternative medicinal approaches to dealing with the aforementioned diseases.

Most experts and studies would agree that with our diets consisting largely of prepackaged foods that have large contents of fat, sugar and other chemical compounds their is a direct link to the rise of certain diseases. When the body can not properly assimilate a chemical it is stored usually in the large intestine. When this "residue" has reached large enough amounts it can start having negative health effects. The majority of body cleansing and detoxing products focus on eliminating toxins and impacted fecal matter. Both actions which can lead to better overall health with positive side effects of weight loss and clearer skin.

This article has briefly touched on some of the benefits you could reasonably expect to receive from using detox colon cleanse products. These include weight loss, clearer skin and greater overall health. Of course before you use any of these products you should consult with a competent medical practitioner. Another trend we have seen in this industry is that the better products tend to offer free trial offers effectively assuming the risk of you using their products.

The Necessity of an Emergency Water Supply

If you read tips for how to plan for the possibility of a disaster striking, there are two tips that experts will give you: Keep a pair of sturdy shoes handy so that you don't cut your feet on broken glass, and have an adequate emergency water supply on hand. These are considered the two most important things you're going to need if something unexpected happens. These needs are easy to provide for, but the majority of people don't have even have provisions this simple made. No one expects to have a natural disaster strike them, but the possibility is one of the uncertainties of life. Keep in mind that no one that has ever faced a disaster situation expected it to happen to them, either.

Keeping your body hydrated in times of emergency is critical. Although you might not like having to do it, your body can live without food for a period of weeks. In fact, you can lose all of the carb and fat reserves in your body and about half of the protein without seriously jeopardizing your health. With water, however, you can only lose between 10 and 22%f your body weight of water before death will occur. That will only take a couple of days unless you have a ready emergency water supply which is adequate to provide the 2-3 quarts of water you need each and every day.

People who are not able to get enough clean drinking water during times of emergency will notice the effects rapidly. You'll start out feeling thirsty, because that's the body's safety mechanism to remind you to drink. Then you'll get unbearably thirsty followed by apathy, nausea, sleepiness, dizziness, difficulty breathing, emotional instability, delirium, and death. It all happens very quickly. That's why you see news stories of people in third world countries drinking from contaminated water sources. Their bodies need water so badly that they will drink even though they know the water could make them sick.

Therefore, it's important that every household make plans for an emergency water supply that will last for several days until power is restored or outside help can arrive. The bare minimum of water you will need per person each day is around 1 quart, and that will only allow for drinking water. You also need to consider the water needs of any pets you have in your home. For a family of four with a small dog, for example, you should have around 35 quarts of water stored. You might consider having two different stashes of water in your home in case you can't get to one of them. You can make your own by filling clean milk jugs with water and then replacing the water occasionally to keep it fresh.
